The Coosa River

Rocky shoals and whitewater on the Coosa River in Alabama

This Isn't the Alabama Most People Expect

Wild Water.  Wild Fish.

Fishing is only part of the day. Running rapids, stepping onto rocky shoals and exploring a stretch of river most people never knew existed in Alabama are all part of the experience. Whether you're here to chase a specific fish, try something completely new or simply experience the Coosa, the day is built around you.

Coosa River fly fishing takes place among Class II and III whitewater, deep pools, rocky shoals and house-sized boulders throughout this stretch of the river. Cypress, Spanish moss and mimosa frame a river alive with birds, turtles and an extraordinary diversity of freshwater life. Releases from Jordan Dam can dramatically change the water, making this a river that never feels quite the same twice.

Alabama bass, freshwater drum, longnose gar, striped bass and hybrids are just a few of the species we intentionally target on fly. From casting to structure and working moving water to sight fishing and throwing flies at fish busting bait on the surface, each species demands something different.  This is a fishery that challenges what most anglers think fly fishing can be.
